- Story Text: Warplanes from a Saudi-led alliance bombed Yemen's Houthi-held capital Sanaa on Saturday (September 12), continuing nearly a week of relentless bombardment on the city in over five months of war.
Saudi Arabia and other Arab states intervened in Yemen's civil war on March 26 to halt the nationwide spread of the Iran-allied Houthis, who captured Sanaa a year ago and forced the government into exile in Riyadh after advancing on its southern stronghold of Aden.
One of the targets of Saturday's air strikes appeared to be a defence ministry maintenance base in the capital.
Yemen's warring factions will meet for peace talks in neighboring Oman next week, the United Nations and Yemeni officials said.
The talks are the second major negotiations effort aimed at ending the war, which has killed over 4,500 people and spread hunger and disease in one of the Arab world's poorest countries. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
