- Story Text: The city of Cascais near Lisbon was lit up on Friday (September 11) night for the fourth edition of the Lumina Light Festival.
This year the festival featured 26 different artworks dispersed along the Path of Light, offering members of the public a magical experience.
Mayor of Cascais Carlos Carreiras said the Lumina Festival brings to the city the double of it's population during the three nights of the exhibition.
"Organisations have estimated that during the three days of the Lumina Festival around 400,000 visitors came, which was a very good number - double the Cascais population, which is 208,000. The best part was above all was to feel Cascais alive, to see it full of colour and joy, where families could share a public art exhibition accessible to everyone."
Ana a visitor from Lisbon, agreed with the Mayor saying that this kind of activities are good for the country, "t's very interesting, it's good to have things like this that can bring dynamism to not just the region, but also the country. It's attracted many people."
Hanne, a visitor from Sweden was taking in by the spectacle.
"Fascinating, it's very fascinating, I don't know what I think about it but it's funny it's different," he said.
"Fantastic, really wonderful, its beautiful and it's really great to see, something for all the people of Cascais and Lisbon... it's wonderful, very, very creative." said Jhun, a tourist from London.
The festival features a variety of light shows, luminous sculptures, installations that interact with visitors, multimedia projections and video mapping on buildings.
The artwork focuses on the most emblematic places of the village, paying tribute to the local heritage and offers a different kind of visit to Cascais. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
