- Summary: VENICE, ITALY (SEPTEMBER 11, 2015) (REUTERS) ACTRESS VALERIA GOLINO IN INTERVIEW (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS VALERIA GOLINO SAYING: "It was so different, also, more complex than having a big character to play, it was so contradictory. I liked the fact that she is so many things at the same time, she is a victim but she is also a victimiser. She is sincere but she is also a liar. She is a great mum, or at least she loves her kids but at the same time she has reactions that go stronger than her. She is so many things so I said yes to the movie right away, even if I knew that the movie was very troubled, that we didn't have a lot of money to make it, as usual, but sometimes more than usual, this time more than usual. I was just enchanted by him (director) and his story." GOLINO IN INTERVIEW (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS VALERIA GOLINO SAYING: "It's easier when you have a lot of time, it's harder when you don't. When you have three scenes in a movie now that's hard. You know, when you have no time to show the spectrum and you have to find ways to...when you have a long time to give her you can take your time, you don't have to put everything in a scene, you can put a little bit here and a little bit there and wait, you know that in ten scenes you have another possibility to show what you are not showing now. That's what is great about having big characters. That's why actors want to play big characters." GOLINO IN INTERVIEW (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS VALERIA GOLINO SAYING: "Of course it means a lot. I'm very proud and happy to be here, it means a lot to the movie. I have been here maybe 15 times and maybe seven times in competition. When I was 19 I won my prize as best actress and that gave me such a..of course at that age, it gave me a sense of...how do you say, like an arrow, it was like an arrow saying ok, you are doing well, that's where you should go. It was very important at a young age to receive that kind of prize. In this case of course I'm not thinking prizes because this is not...if something happens for the movie we would of course be making a big party." GOLINO LEAVING

- Story Text: Italian actress Valeria Golino on Saturday (September 12) picked up the prestigious best actress award at the Venice Film Festival for the second time, nearly thirty years after winning the prize for "Storia d'Amore" in 1986.
Golino won the prize for her portrayal of Anna in Giuseppe Gaudino's Naples-set "Per Amor Vostro".
The film, mainly in black and white and in Naples-dialect, follows the transformation of Anna as she gains confidence after finding a full time job.
Golino described the role as a "surprise" and "rare".
"It was so different, also, more complex than having a big character to play, it was so contradictory. I liked the fact that she is so many things at the same time, she is a victim but she is also a victimiser. She is sincere but she is also a liar. She is a great mum, or at least she loves her kids but at the same time she has reactions that go stronger than her," she said.
"She is so many things so I said yes to the movie right away, even if I knew that the movie was very troubled, that we didn't have a lot of money to make it, as usual, but sometimes more than usual, this time more than usual. I was just enchanted by him (director) and his story," she added, ahead of the film's Venice premiere on Friday (September 11).
Golino is on the screen for most of the film, a fact she said had helped her explore and showcase all of Anna's emotional range.
"It's easier when you have a lot of time, it's harder when you don't. That's why actors want to play big characters," she said.
Golino was only 19 when she first won the best actress prize in Venice. She described winning the award a career-changing moment.
"Of course it means a lot. In this case of course I'm not thinking prizes because this is not...if something happens for the movie we would of course be making a big party," she said.
Outside of her native Italy, Golino made her name with appearances in "Rain Man" and "Hot Shots!" in the late 80s and early 90s. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
