- Story Text: Migrants continued to camp outside Budapest's Keleti station on Monday (September 7) morning, waiting for trains to take them westwards and out of Hungary.
Some slept outside the station while others, many with small children in tow, sought shelter in an underpass nearby, attracting curious glances from passers-by.
Hungary, a major transit point for migrants heading into the heart of the EU via the Balkans, is ruled by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who said last week that Europe would be "lost" if it let all the migrants in and said he did not want to live alongside a large Muslim community.
After days of confrontation and chaos, Hungary's right-wing government deployed dozens of buses to move on migrants from the capital, Budapest on Saturday (September 5), and pick up over 1,000 - many of them refugees from the Syrian war - who had set off by foot on Friday (September 4) down the main highway to Vienna.
On Monday Orban said the European Union should give financial support to Turkey and other non-member countries to help them deal with the stream of migrants and refugees trying to reach Europe.
Addressing Hungarian diplomats in Budapest, Orban also said discussion of quotas for distributing migrants between members of the 28-nation bloc were premature while it was unable to defend its external frontiers. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
