- Story Text: A mural depicting jailed Australian Cardinal George Pell in handcuffs appeared near the Vatican on Wednesday (July 31).
The mural, placed on the concrete pillars of a bridge, next to a busy road not far from St. Peter's basilica, showed a devil-like figure behind Pell and was signed ''Scottie Marsh'', the name of an Australian artist who - according to media reports - recently painted a similar scene near St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney.
Pell became the most senior Catholic cleric to be convicted of child sex abuse when he was jailed for six years in February. The former Vatican treasurer has appealed against the sentence and denies any wrongdoing.
