- Story Text: Three endangered Mexican bobcat kittens born at Mexico City's Los Coyotes zoo made their public debut on Friday (August 21).
The fluffy felines were born in June and are already one of the most popular attractions at the park.
The rare birth of the feline triplets is a first for the zoo in a decade.
"This zoo has not had a birth of these species since ten years ago. The birth of these bobcats is important because not only is it an endangered species but its one of Mexico's six native feline (species)," said Director for Mexico City's Zoos, Juan Arturo Rivera.
From birth, the proud mother has reportedly been by her kitten's sides to protect and feed them.
"This litter was presented two months ago. After a gestation period of also two months, the female bobcat has been very careful with her litter, giving them food all the time, she's very protective. It's an achievement to have this species in the Los Coyotes zoo," added Rivera.
The Mexican bobcat is the southernmost subspecies of the bobcat family and has been classified as endangered due to the destruction of its habitats as well as poachers seeking to trade its thick fur coats. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
