- Story Text: Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck announced he is retiring from the NFL Saturday (August 24) at a quickly called news conference.
Luck wasted little time after news broke and announced the decision at the Colts facility after the team played a preseason game against the Chicago Bears.
The injury-prone Luck had been sidelined during the entire pre-season and said years of injury, pain, and rehab had taken its toll.
The 29-year-old was the number one overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft and is a four-times Pro Bowl player.
Luck led the Colts to the playoffs in his first three seasons but then ran into health issues.
He played just seven games in the 2015 season due to injuries to his kidney and abdominal muscle.
In 2017, Luck missed the entire season following shoulder surgery.
The signal-caller was named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year last season after returning to produce another Pro Bowl year.
Luck has thrown for more than 23,600 yards with 171 touchdowns during his career. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
