- Story Text: Hong Kong's pro-democracy lawmakers held a news conference on Monday (August 26) condemning the leadership of leader Carrie Lam and calling on Beijing to keep their 'hands off' the Chinese-ruled city's affairs.
The news conference came a day after the 12th protest weekend, which ended with rounds of tear gas and petrol bombs being used.
Sunday's (August 25) protests saw some of the fiercest clashes yet between police and protesters since demonstrations escalated in mid-June over a now-suspended extradition bill that would have allowed Hong Kong people to be sent to mainland China for trial.
Police fired water cannons and volleys of tear gas in running battles against brick-throwing protesters on Sunday and arrested at least 36 people, the youngest aged 12.
Six officers drew their pistols and one officer fired a warning shot into the air, police said in a statement.
