- Story Text:U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Mangina, Beni in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday (September 1) to visit and interact with Ebola survivors.
North Kivu and Ituri are regarded as the hardest hit by the disease, with accessibility and insecurity posing a great challenge in containing the spread of Ebola.
Guterres toured some of the recovery facilities and expressed his admiration for the community coping with the threat of the disease.
It is Congo's tenth Ebola outbreak, but it is the first in the densely forested hillside provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, where militia-led violence and ethnic killing have undermined security in certain areas for decades.
