- Story Text: South Korean President Moon Jae-in met Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha during his first official state visit to Thailand on Monday (September 2) for bilateral talks to increase economic cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders held a meeting in Bangkok and later announced their aim to strengthen strategic partnerships during a joint statement.
Prayuth and Moon also witnessed the signing ceremony of six Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements in various aspects such as water resource management, Korean language proficiency, the exchanging of news intelligence in the high ranking military levels, trade, transport, as well as cooperation in developing smart city initiatives.
Moon's visit to the Southeast Asian region is in accordance to South Korea's New Southern Policy (NSP) to promote interactions and cooperation with each of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN), including Thailand as chair this year, according to Thai government house press release.
