- Story Text:Pope Francis on Friday (September 6), his final day in Mozambique, visited a hospital on the outskirts of Maputo which treats HIV-AIDS-infected mothers and their children.
Rain did not dampen the singing and dancing of those gathered to greet the pontiff at the Zimpeto hospital which was inaugurated in 2018 and is run by the Italian religious charity Sant'Egidio.
The pontiff spoke briefly before blessing some of the women infected with HIV and their young babies.
So far the hospital has treated more than 2,000 patients in a program aimed at helping those from poorer communities who may not be able to afford health care. The clinic also carries out important health screening for the local community.
Later the pope delivered mass at the Zimpeto stadium where tens of thousands of people were gathered.
