- Story Text:Paris St Germain geared up on Tuesday (September 17), for their blockbuster match against Real Madrid, where newly-signed Argentine striker Mauro Icardi will have to step up in the absence of star forwards Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and the suspended Neymar.
Mbappe and Cavani have been ruled out for PSG's opening Champions League group stage match against Real Madrid on Wednesday (September 18), the French Ligue 1 champions said.
Mbappe picked up a hamstring injury and was forced off against Toulouse last month and has not featured since for PSG, while Cavani is out of action with a hip problem.
Thomas Tuchel's side will also be without Neymar, with the Brazilian forward serving a two-match Champions League ban for insulting match officials following PSG's defeat by Manchester United in the round of 16 last season. Neymar's ban was originally for three matches, but it was reduced on Tuesday following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Mbappe, Neymar and Cavani netted 11 of PSG's 20 goals in their Champions League campaign last season, and the trio will be crucial again in 2019-20 as the club look to go deep in Europe's elite competition.
Icardi was toothless in PSG's Ligue 1 win over Racing Strasbourg last Saturday (September 14), coming on as a second-half substitute.
The spotlight on Wednesday will also be on keeper Keylor Navas who joined from Real Madrid earlier this month, where he had been back-up to Belgian Thibaut Courtois.
