For me, this drink left a deep impression on me because it reminds us about the unfortunate event and most people are feeling sentimental about this incident, this serves as a good reminder (for us), and it's really delicious." When we eat this meal, each course represents what happened in the past few months, but at the same time I don't feel that strongly about it." VARIOUS RICE BALLS MAKING PROCESS RICE BALLS ON PLATE OWNER OF RESTAURANT 'SPICY ANDONG', ROY MA, HOLDING MENU AND SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (Cantonese) OWNER OF SPICY ANDONG, ROY MA, SAYING: "We decided to create this set meal in a rush because there were so many different opinions about what happened on August 31 at Prince Edward station. Although I wasn't there, I saw a lot of video showing people being beaten up and I was very sad. That's why on the same evening, I came up with this set meal idea, so that hopefully (by eating this) people will remember what happened." MENU OF THE "FULL GEAR" SET MEAL (SOUNDBITE) (Cantonese) OWNER OF SPICY ANDONG, ROY MA, SAYING: "I think the confrontational and divided Hong Kong society at the moment makes me sad. Why has so much happened in Hong Kong due to one law? I saw some media interviewing Chinese in mainland China or people from abroad, what they reported was twisted. Hong Kong has never wanted independence, this is different from the reality I'm seeing, there's no request about (wanting) independence. But when the news circulated (among the Chinese communities) in Canada, Australia or mainland China, people over there said they are against Hong Kong's independence, but that has never been the case. All I heard (from people here) is fulfil the five demands and retract the bill." - Story Text: Bright red strawberry syrup poured over a longan on the top of a glass loosely draped with gauze swab - this is how a restaurant in Hong Kong chose to remember one of the controversial moments in the ongoing anti-government protests.
The woman, known as "Miss K", injured her right eye during a violent police crackdown last month, prompting demonstrators to protest against police brutality by wearing 'bloodied' eye-patches.
From "eye for an eye", "five demands" to "beating raw pork", a "full gear" set meal that rolled out earlier this month is what the restaurant owner hoped will help his fellow Hong Kong people remember a summer of protests marred by violence.
Side dishes of rice and vegetable balls play on the pun of 'vegetable balls' in Cantonese sounding like 'demands' in the protesters' 'five demands', and a side dish of pork is titled 'beating raw pork', in reference to the breakout of violence between protesters and police.
Tucked away at the back end of a bustling tourist area, Mongkok, where many violent protests had previously broken out, restaurant 'Spicy Andong' is one of the many businesses in Hong Kong showing their support for protesters.
As the protests enter a fourth month, there is little sign showing they will ease as more marches are planned for the upcoming weekends leading to the Chinese National Day on October 1.
Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam is set to hold the first open dialogue with public next Thursday (September 26) as an attempt to end the disruptions in the Asian financial hub.
