- Story Text:Bulgaria's prosecutor general lodged an appeal against Australian Jock Palfreeman's early release from prison with the country's highest court, a spokeswoman said on Tuesday (September 24).
Palfreeman was released on Friday (September 20) from prison to an immigration detention centre after serving more than 10 years of a 20-year sentence for murder.
Spokeswoman Rumyana Arnaudova said the appeal aimed to see Palfreeman's parole overturned and his return to prison.
Nationalist party 'Ataka' protested Palfreeman's release outside of the Palace of Justice on Tuesday, and called for the resignation of the judge Kalin Kalpakchiev, who was the chair of the panel of judges who granted Palfreeman's early release.
The party's leader Volen Siderov said they wanted to see Kalpakchiev, who is also the chair of the board of Association of Bulgarian Judges, lose the right to be a judge or magistrate.
Palfreeman's lawyer Kalin Angelov said the attempt to reverse his early release was "sadistic" adding his client posed no danger to anyone.
