It will have a total of twenty-five floors of which twenty-one floors will be built using modular technology, assembled on site here in Skawina, Poland." It represents a small percentage of the construction market. This does not change the fact that this share is increasing, the interest is increasing. This is a result of investors looking for time savings, cost savings, and in some sectors, especially in the hotel industry, exceptional attention to quality." Quality control of transport is maintained during each trip. The transport conditions are checked each time. The building is transported differently to the United States, the building is transported differently via road transport for example to the Netherlands and differently to Iceland. Each time these conditions are controlled." In this case the costs are definitely lower. Certainly better quality of workmanship because most of these elements are made in the factory, so in short, we're able to take care of every detail. If I had to mention the negatives, I would pay attention to the fact that each joining of modules poses a certain obstacle, especially from the architect's viewpoint, but there are now system solutions for modular construction that allow for each such type of project to be customised and it effectively no longer poses a problem." - Story Text:Instead of brick by brick, a Polish company is preparing the components for the construction of a new edition to New York's skyline block by block.
DMDmodular, based near the southern city of Krakow, is manufacturing the world's tallest modular hotel - set to be 25 stories and 360 feet (109 metres) tall.
Each of the 168 guest rooms for the Marriott AC Hotel New York NoMad will be prefabricated and sent to the U.S. complete with electrical and plumbing installation.
They will also be fully decorated and furnished down to details such as made-up beds and toiletries in the bathroom.
DMDmodular CEO Ewelina Wozniak-Szpakiewicz said even though modular technology accounts for only a small percentage of the construction market, there is growing interest due the potential for time and cost savings.
Silesian University of Technology architecture professor Michal Tomaszek said modular building technology offered a higher quality of workmanship.
He added that there was a potential drawback in terms of how the modules fit together, but that technological improvements meant this effectively no longer a problem.
According to information published on Marriott's website, the hotel's construction will begin in late autumn this year with an opening date set for late 2020.
