- Story Text: Jordan's King Abdullah met Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Thursday (October 3).
Putin remarked on the significance of bilateral ties between the nations, noting recent celebrations marking 55 years of diplomacy.
The monarch highlighted Russia's role in the Middle East, and thanked Putin for the 'strong presence' in the region.
Russia has been a key backer of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the conflict, which started with street protests against Assad's rule in March 2011.
Jordan, a U.S. and Saudi ally, has supported an alliance of rebels seen as moderate by Assad's Western foes.
