- Story Text: Polling stations closed on Sunday (October 6) in Tunisia's parliamentary election, with early indications from the electoral commission showing that the turnout was low across the country.
The moderate Islamist Ennahda party and its rival Heart of Tunisia party of detained media mogul Nabil Karoui both said they had won a parliamentary election on Sunday, though no official results are expected yet.
Ennahda, Tunisia's best organised party with a widescale national presence, has been in several governing coalitions since the 2011 revolution that introduced democracy.
Karoui is one of two candidates who made it through the first round of a presidential election last month to reach a runoff vote next Sunday. He was arrested in August on charges of money laundering and tax fraud, which he denies, and has contested the election from a jail cell pending his trial.
The biggest party in parliament will nominate a prime minister who has two months to form a government.
