- Story Text: Police in London said they had arrested 21 climate activists by 8 a.m. (0700 GMT) on Monday (October 7) as the Extinction Rebellion protest group launched two weeks of peaceful civil disobedience to call for urgent government action to curb carbon emissions.
Protesters blocked a road outside Britain's defence ministry in London by chaining themselves to a car and putting up a mock Trident missile. Reuters reporters also saw activists blocking a bridge and several other roads as the protests gathered pace in Britain's capital.
On Sunday (October 6), activists staged an action by London's Marble Arch, donning red robes and masks as they walked in a procession.
British police arrested 10 activists from Extinction Rebellion last week in anticipation of the planned new round of protests.
