- Story Text: Ten buses carrying Turkish soldiers arrived in a town on Turkey's border with Syria on Tuesday (October 8).
The convoy arrived in the southeast town of Akcakale hours after Turkey announced that it had completed the preparations to launch military operation in northeast Syria following the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region.
U.S. President Donald Trump warned he would "obliterate" the NATO ally's economy if it took action in Syria that he considered "off limits" following his decision on Sunday to pull 50 American special forces troops from the border region.
U.S. forces evacuated two observation posts at Tel Abyad and Ras al Ain on Monday (October 7), a U.S. official said.
The Kurdish-led forces, who have been the most effective U.S. partners in fighting Islamic State in Syria, have denounced the major U.S. policy shift as "stab in the back".
