- Story Text: Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Manasseh Sogavare met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing on Wednesday (October 9) during his first state visit to China after the two countries established ties.
After the welcome ceremony, the two held bilateral talks and a signing ceremony.
Diplomatic ties were officially established between the two countries on September 21, five days after Solomon Islands cut ties with Taiwan which is self-governed and mainland China says has no right to build state-to-state ties with other nations worldwide.
Following the political break-up, Taiwan now has formal relations with just 15 countries, mostly smaller and poorer nations in Latin America and the Pacific, including Nauru, Tuvalu and Palau.
