- Story Text:The study of cell structure could be less challenging for school and university students in Jordan if they can use this low-cost microscope designed by Syrian refugee Abbas Faouri.
Faouri's microscope can be connected to computers and mobile phones and operates with ultraviolet, infrared, and visible light.
It can magnify samples up to 800x, making it suitable for examining different types of cells, chromosomes, and paramecium that are found in shallow waters.
In addition to being an educational tool, the microscope can also be used for autopsies, the 22-year-old designer says.
The refugee who moved from his hometown in Deraa in 2013, now lives in the Jordanian city of Madaba.
He hopes that his design can benefit schools and students who cannot afford buying average microscopes.
His design is on display at Amman Design Week, which is taking place from October 4 until October 12.
