- Story Text: Swiss scientist Michel Mayor arrived to deliver a lecture at an astrobiology centre in Spain on Wednesday (October 9), a day after being awarded a Nobel Prize for Physics.
Mayor and his colleague Didier Queloz, of Switzerland's University of Geneva and Britain's Cambridge University, won half of the 9-million-Swedish-crown ($910,000) prize for the first discovery of a planet outside our own solar system, a so-called "exoplanet", in 1995.
The other half of the prize was awarded to Canadian-American cosmologist James Peebles of Princeton University in the United States for interpreting trace radiation from the infancy of the universe.
