International donors are set to pledge $14 billion on Thursday to combating AIDS, said French President Emmanuel Macron.
"I will not let anyone leave this room nor leave Lyon as long as the 14 billion dollars is not raised," he told a gathering in Lyon, adding that France would commit close to $1.5 billion.
He urged G7 countries, Gulf states and the private sector to contribute to the Global Fund that will go towards improving maternal health, reproductive health and universal health care in developing countries with high prevalence of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
The Global Fund Replenishment Conference has set a goal of preventing 234 million infections related to these diseases by 2023.
