- Story Text:Indonesian Chief Security Minister Wiranto was rushed to a hospital in Jakarta on Thursday (October 10) after he was attacked by a knife wielding man during a visit to a town on the island of Java.
A police chief told local media that Wiranto is conscious and his condition is stable.
National police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo has confirmed the incident and said the perpetrator had been arrested and an officer had been hurt.
Wiranto, 72, has served as chief security minister in President Joko Widodo's cabinet since 2016. His appointment drew criticism from rights groups for his involvement as chief of the armed forces in the bloody upheaval in East Timor.
