- Story Text: Maryland carpenters are constructing the furnishings for Pope Francis's September outdoor Mass in Washington on Monday. (August 17).
David Cahoon, a deacon for the Archdiocese of Washington is a professional carpenter. He said that being able to construct the altar for the Pope is the "highest honor."
"I believe that that's where Jesus comes down and becomes the nucleus and feeds us. And so for me spiritually, it's a fantastic honor for any altar," Cahoon said.
Pope Francis visits Washington Sept. 22-24, where he will arrive at Joint Base Andrews and will meet with President Barack Obama before holding Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
