- Story Text: Ecuadorean President Lenin Moreno said Thursday (October 10) that members of Colombia's FARC rebel group and Venezuelans sent by President Nicolas Maduro were involved in the protests that have rocked Ecuador over the past week.
Speaking in an interview with Colombia's RCN television network, Moreno said, "we're already getting the evidence that there are people from the FARC immersed," and added, "there is no doubt that Venezuelans are there, Venezuelans sent by Maduro."
Since last week, security forces have turned tear gas and water cannons on protesters who have set up burning barricades and hurled stones at police lines.
Protests in Ecuador first erupted a week ago when Moreno cut fuel subsidies as part of a package of measures in line with a $4.2 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
