- Story Text: Hollywood insiders came out in force on Friday (October 11) to celebrate the six women Variety has dubbed powerful for 2019.
Actresses Jennifer Aniston, Brie Larson and Awkwafina made the list.
"I think I realized my power via just an impossibility not to be anyone else but myself. And I think that at first I had trouble owning that, and now when I hear that it inspires others to pursue who they are I like it," said Awkwafina.
Chaka Khan and Mariah Carey were the only two musicians being honored.
Carey's long time friend, songwriter Diana Warren called her a true talent.
"She's a powerful woman, she's a powerful person who happens to be a woman, how about that. They don't say powerful guy. You, know, she's a powerful human being."
Actress Nicey Nash was on hand to present Khan with her prize.
"She literally is an icon in music. She literally has paved the way for so many other artists to come after her again. She's just a gift, she's a gift."
