- Story Text:French President Emmanuel Macron met on Monday (October 14) with European Council President Donald Tusk in Paris, days after the president's candidate for one of the EU's top posts was rejected by the EU Parliament.
Macron had proposed Sylvie Goulard for the role of European commissioner to the internal market. Despite being initially signalled the bid would be accepted by Commission president-elect Ursula Von Der Leyen, Goulard's candidacy was snubbed by members of the Parliament.
Macron expressed anger and surprise at the decision and is said to be seeking an explanation, while also preparing a crucial summit on Brexit set to open on Thursday (October 17) in Brussels.
Macron had met with Von Der Leyen at the Elysee earlier on Monday.
