An aeronautical firm in El Salvador is providing new opportunities for citizens in the impoverished nation who would otherwise have considered their chances of migrating to the United States.
These young Salvadorans have received a scholarship for on-the-ground training at Aeroman. They are the beneficiaries of a programme partly financed by the U.S. called FOMILENIO II, which aims to provide locals with employment opportunities back home without having to emigrate.
FOMILENIO II was conceived in 2014 and now has the backing of bodies such as the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the United States' Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). At the end of this placement, candidates are elligible for official posts in participating companies.
El Salvador is one of the poorest countries in the Americas, wracked by high levels of violence and poverty. Employment opportunities such as these are hard to come by.
Authorities hope that programmes such as this will turn around numbers of Salvadorans heading to the United States, whilst also tackling poverty back home.
