Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro thanked China on Friday (October 25) for recognising Brazil's 'sovereignty' over the Amazon during a speech at a business forum in Beijing.
Speaking at the Brazil-China Business Seminar, Bolsonaro said the public recognition from a Chinese ambassador "has no price". He was giving a speech as part of his visit to China to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the countries.
Leaders of the Group of Seven wealthy nations in August offered $20 million of emergency aid to help battle wildfires in the Amazon rainforest, a gesture Brazil slammed as colonialist.
Bolsonaro's trip came as the two developing economies are looking to enhance bilateral trade.
Brazil is hopeful China will authorize more local meat exporters before Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Brazil next month. Discussions between a Brazilian delegation to China and local authorities this week also covered demand for Brazilian commodities like sugar, cotton and ethanol.
