The 'Hitman' video game series is coming to life on the big screen.
Fans of the game packed a New York Times Square movie theater on Thursday (August 13) to catch a glimpse of the all-star cast that includes Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware and Zachary Quinto.
Friend plays Agent 47, a manufactured assassin who is trying to avoid being captured by a group who wants to clone him to create a legion of killers. The British native took over the role after the death of actor Paul Walker.
"I was thrilled to get the role and very excited to get my teeth into the challenges of it. It felt like something that was going to need a lot of preparation physically and so I pretty much threw myself into that preparation," explained Friend.
The film is being released into a sea of action adventure films that are already at the box office, however Friend explained why "Hitman" will stand apart.
"I think that they are all heroes and this is an anti-hero, that's what I would say. I'd go with the underdog every time," he said with a smile.
Quinto plays a CIA agent in the film adds that the movie visually also sets itself apart.
"I was so impressed by how the movie looks and how they utilize and how really maximize the environment of Berlin. And Singapore looks incredible, I mean Singapore looked like a place that I would actually want to go back to, although it isn't. But it looks beautiful."
Being derived from a successful video game means the film comes with a built-in fan base, but director Aleksander Bach said all moviegoers will enjoy the flick.
"The fans are going to love it because we additionally have a very strong female lead role," he said speaking of Ware.
"So it's not just for the fans who love it, it's just really in general it's a great story. And I think it's a good mixture of great action but humanity and something that's really emotionally, which gives - brings us on a great ride," he added.
However, Quinto, who is currently filming the latest film in the 'Star Trek' series said he has learned not to base his performance on the fans.
"I do all my work hoping that people respond to it or like it and if they do that's great, if they don't then, that's their deal not mine."
Ware's role in the film serves as her first major leading role in a feature film, which came with lots of bumps of bruises from all the stunts, but she wasn't complaining: "A lot of fun, a lot of pain, but a lot of fun."
Although packed with action, Ware said there is also a solid narrative.
"I think it will be a surprising film, it's not just sheer blowing up shit. It's actually got a real, really compelling storyline."
