North Korea's state-run television KRT on Wednesday (August 12) broadcast video of soldiers conducting a shooting contest against targets depicting South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
KRT reported North Korean soldiers fired live ammunition at pictures of Park Geun-hye on Tuesday (August 11).
In the video, North Korean soldiers also held a rally against South Korea and the United States in front of Sinchon Museum in South Hwanghae province, North Korea's official news agency KCNA said.
South Korea's Unification Ministry on Thursday (August 13) strongly urged North Korea to stop its provocation.
"The South Korean government strongly condemns North Korea for firing guns aimed at a picture of our president. It is seen as irrational behaviour," Unification Ministry spokesman Jeong Joon-hee said.
"North Korea should immediately stop its actions. And the North also should realise that this kind of irrational behaviour reaffirms its aggressive attitude to our people and the international community as well as strengthens its isolation," Jeong added.
South Korea's military on Monday (August 10) accused North Korea of planting land mines inside the Demilitarised Zone that exploded on August 4 and wounded two South Korean soldiers, calling it a cowardly act of provocation, and threatened retaliation.
North and South Korea are still technically at war since the 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce without a peace treaty.
The two Koreas station about one million troops near their respective sides of the Demilitarized Zone that has divided the peninsula since the Korea War ended. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
