- Story Text: Anti-fascist demonstrators gathered outside the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna on Thursday (August 13) after reports that a Hungarian branch of neo-Nazi group 'Blood & Honour' were planning to stop there on a trip of Third Reich sights.
German media reported that the tour planned to visit Nazi history sights in Nuremberg, Munich and Braunau after leaving from Budapest on Thursday morning. Adolf Hitler was denied entry to the prestigious art academy twice when a budding artist in Austria.
Protesters outside the Academy held up signs in Hungarian and English reading: "Fascists not welcome".
"We are here to demonstrate against Blood and Honour. This is very clearly a Nazi group with clear Nazi structure, with a terrorist arm... So you can see, these are not some [right wing] 'concerned citizens', these are clearly Nazis who came here to honour Hitler, and we came here to stage an anti-fascist protest and deny space for Nazis," one protester who wished to remain anonymous said.
The vice-rector of the Academy of Fine Arts, Andrea B. Braidt, said that they had closed the establishment to prevent entry to the group.
"About a week ago we received information about this tour of Hungarian right wing extremists. We prepared, we closed the academy, we locked the main entrance. We published this information because we don't want to let this group in," she said.
