- Story Text: Peru was the dazzling setting on Tuesday (August 4) for an attempt at the world record for Longest Fashion Show.
As models put on make-up and had their hair done ahead of the show, model Nissu Cauti showed her national pride.
"Well, we're here at the Gamarra 30 Hour Fashion Show and we're going to beat the record. There are 300 models and 120 national brands participating, totally Peruvian," she said.
The "30 hours Gamarra Fashion Show" kicked off on Tuesday, looking to beat a marathon runway show which featured models wearing only outfits created by Cotton Incorporated, which lasted for a record-setting 24 hours and 28 seconds in Miami Beach's Ocean Drive last November.
This show - looking to present the best in textile, apparel and designs - was organised by entrepreneurs and is being monitored by a representative of the Guinness World Records Organization.
"The record to beat is 24 hours, 28 seconds. That belongs to Cotton Inc. in a Runway Fashion Show they had in November of 2014, but now, here in Gamarra, they want to beat 30 hours," said Guinness judge Evelyn Carrera.
Models will only wear creations made by designers from the commercial zone of Lima's Gamarra commercial zone.
Gamarra, located in the central district of La Victoria, is home to the largest textile industry in Lima and has several shops and malls where all kinds of clothes are made. There are more than 10,000 entrepreneurs and 17,000 stores housed in the 20 blocks in the district, according to local media.
This is the first event of this magnitude where models will strut down the catwalk all day and all night, presenting the best in textiles, clothing, designs, finishes and advancement of fashion for the Winter-Spring season, local media reported.
"Hello. How's it going? We're here, ready to go out, ready for Gamarra's 30 hours. We're giving it our all," said model Cynthia Herrera, as she waited outside.
Some 120 major companies from Gamarra intend to showcase garments for women, men and children.
About 200 models will wear some 1,800 garments during the event. Independent designers will also use the event as a platform to show off their designs.
"This year what we want to beat in Gamarra is the longest fashion show in the world but, this time, breaking a record with 30 hours. In order to do this, the main agencies in the country are definitely involved; there are five agencies, 200 models, 120 businessmen, 20 galleries. It's truly a spectacular event," said event promoter Gian Lossio.
The event will close in spectacular fashion with a catwalk from famed designer Jose Miguel Valdivia.
The event ends on Wednesday (July 5) night. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
