  • Story Text: One of the world's greatest firework displays, the final flourish of the annual summer festival in Geneva, amazed an audience of thousands on Saturday (August 8) evening, celebrating the theme of magic.
    "It's always great. We are always amazed especially at the end. Each time, we believe this is the end and it keeps going, and they add more. It's never ending," said Viviane, a spectator from Belgarde.
    The breath-taking show lasted nearly one hour, setting the lakeside alight with the brightly coloured sparks of the fireworks.
    Les Fêtes de Geneve, meaning Geneva Celebrations or Geneva Festival, is a 10-day event held annually in the early days of August and welcomes singers, shows and street performers and rides.
    "Exciting! This is the first time we come to see the Geneva fireworks. We come from Lyon to attend the festival, which is world famous. It was a great experience. A magical moment. Really it was wonderful, we loved it," said Julien and Iza, from Lyon.
    The key attraction remained the closing fireworks - 30,000 rockets over Lake Leman and Jet d'Eau in a burst of lights said to cost nearly 600,000 Swiss francs (US611 thousand dollars).
