- Story Text: While some Bavarians drink a cold beer to cope with the heat, others choose to jump into the river as temperatures climb up to and over 30 degrees celsius on Thursday (August 6).
And it is only going to get hotter, with weather forecasts predicting temperatures over 40 degrees celsius this weekend.
In the Englischer Garten in Munich children cooled down by running under the water spurts of the fountains.
The elder ones though preferred jumping into the Isar river holding hands and letting the stream drive them away.
Those above drinking age preferred to cool themselves down from the inside - with a traditional cold beer.
"I would recommend a cold beverage, maybe at your local pub. Jumping into the river and trying maybe some lemonade. Docking yourself in ice is really nice as well," Marcelo Olsen, a Canadian student on exchange, told Reuters.
The Englischer Garten park was full of people enjoying the sun, and while some were in search of a nice tan, others preferred the shade.
The previous record over 40 Celsius was measured in the country in August 2003 and July 1983. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
