- Story Text: Around 10 Chinese family members of passengers aboard the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 demanded on Wednesday (August 5) to speak with representatives of the airline in Beijing to release more information on the investigation into a piece of plane debris found possibly belonging to the airliner.
Investigators in France are expected to determine whether the piece came from MH370 or not by Wednesday. Malaysia said on Sunday (August 2) the piece of debris, a 2-2.5 metre (6.5-8 feet) wing surface known as flaperon, had been identified as being from a Boeing BA.N 777, the same model as the missing Malaysian plane.
A handful of Chinese family members gathered at the Malaysia Airlines representative office in Beijing on Wednesday morning.
Small scuffles broke out between family members and security after Malaysia Airlines employees denied them entrance into their office. Dozens of police also arrived at the building.
"We came here to the Malaysian Airlines (office) from morning onward to request a meeting with people from Malaysian Airlines and talk with them. But they prevented us from coming up. Then there were some clashes," said Jiang Hui, whose mother was aboard MH370.
Jiang said that before any results of the investigation into the plane wreckage are released on Wednesday evening, he wanted more information.
"The personnel, the departments involved in the investigation, the process and the methodology (used in the investigation), I think that all these things should be made public to let the whole world see it, and so that it should be convincing for everyone. But now we know nothing, (they're) just telling us "yes" or "no" all of a sudden," said Jiang.
Later, the family members were allowed into the Malaysian Airlines office to speak with a company official. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
