- Story Text:Six people were killed and several wounded on Monday (December 23) in a car explosion in the Syrian town of Suluk, according to a source from the local hospital.
The northern town, which lies approximately 10 km from the Turkish border, is controlled by Turkish troops and their Syrian rebel allies.
Troops were seen firing guns in to the air in order to disperse crowds gathered at the explosion site.
Suluk is one of three key towns controlled by the Turkish-backed troops, including Tal Abyad and Ras al Ain.
Turkey is seeking international support for plans to settle 1 million Syrians in part of northeast Syria that its forces and their Syrian rebel allies seized from the Kurdish YPG militia in a cross-border incursion in October.
Turkey has backed Syrian rebels fighting Assad, while Russia and Iran support Assad's forces. Ankara, Moscow and Tehran have been working on a political solution to the conflict.
A Turkish team was in Russia on Monday for talks on the conflicts in Syria and Libya, following reports that tens of thousands more Syrians were heading to Turkey, which is already host to the world's biggest refugee population.
