- Story Text: People in the capital, New Delhi and in several other cities across northern India, braved chilly winds on a foggy Friday (December 27) morning as the cold wave intensified across the country.
India's metrological department has issued an advisory saying due to the persistence of Northwesterly winds in northwestern parts including states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh states will experience 'severe' cold day conditions in the next two days.
Fog is also likely to thicken in the coming days, said the department.
Locals in northern Amritsar city and eastern Patna city were seen covered in layers of woollen clothes and warming themselves up in front of fire lit on roadsides.
While winter temperatures in South Asia are mild compared to Europe, they can at times prove deadly in India, where thousands of homeless live in shacks without any heating arrangements. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
