- Story Text: Hundreds of Buddhist monks, devotees, and tourists on Friday (December 27) celebrated the religious festival of Losar in India's cold desert region of Ladakh.
Losar is a Tibetan word for New Year. 'Lo' means year and 'Sar' means new.
On Friday, devotees, in large numbers, gathered at the Chokhang Vihara, Buddhist temple in Leh, and prayed for happiness and prosperity which was followed by feasting.
Buddhist monks and artists sported their ethnic attires including masks and headgears and performed traditional dances.
Monks also hoisted religious prayer flags, presented symbolic meals and offerings to the gods, and performed rituals with full adoration.
The annual festival of Losar, as per the Tibetan calendar, generally commences a week before the Gregorian New Year and the celebrations continue till January end. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
