- Story Text: Parts of the iconic Dal Lake of Indian Kashmir was seen partially frozen on Sunday (December 29) after the mercury dipped to about 4 degree Celsius.
Portions of the lake's surface were seen covered with a thick blanket of ice, affecting the movement of local boats, known as 'Shikaras'.
Basheer Ahmed, a Srinagar resident said the Dal Lake, which is a quintessential part of Kashmir, becomes a major tourist attraction in winters, as visitors get to enjoy an uncommon sight of the frozen lake along with the scenic beauty of the Valley.
Temperatures in northern parts of the Indian subcontinent, skirting the Himalayan foothills, dip drastically during the months of December and January mostly due to seasonal western disturbances. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
