I am very sorry that the Mexican government lends itself to protecting a group of people who have been accused of crimes of sedition and terrorism. Several of them are suspected of very important links to drug trafficking. That said, we see the situation as similar to what we have with the Venezuelan regime". NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) MEMBER OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND MEMBER OF VOX PARTY, HERMANN TERTSCH, SAYING: "We have left perhaps more concerned after seeing what the people within the Mexican embassy are attributing to doing, those who have been accused and of their possible ties with one of the parties (Podemos) that will form majority government in Spain on the 7th (January 7). That alarms and worries us."

- Story Text: A lawmaker of Spain's far-right Vox party on Thursday (January 2) criticised Mexico for protecting former Bolivian government officials in its La Paz embassy.
Members of Vox held a news conference in La Paz where they called for clarity on the issue. Last month, Spanish officials visited the Mexican embassy where nine people who were part of Former Bolivian President, Evo Morales, have taken asylum in the diplomatic headquarters.
Vox and EU lawmaker Hermann Tertsch also touted possible ties between those in the embassy and Spain's left-leaning government.
Invited by the Bolivian government, Tertsch met with members of the interim government in Bolivia and expressed his support for the Interim Bolivian President Jeanine Anez.
Last week, Bolivia's government expelled Mexican and Spanish diplomats, escalating the diplomatic dispute between the countries.
