- Story Text: A Cairo court session expected to deliver a verdict in the retrial of Al Jazeera television journalists has been postponed, a judge announced on Sunday (August 2).
"The court has decided to postpone the reading of the verdict until August 29th, 2015, with the continuation of all present precautionary measures. Court adjourned," said Judge Issam Abu Al Ila.
No reason for the postponement was given.
The journalists are charged with aiding a terrorist organisation, a reference to the Muslim Brotherhood, which was outlawed in Egypt after the army ousted Islamist president Mohamed Mursi amid mass protests against his rule in 2013.
Mohamed Fahmy, a naturalised Canadian who has given up his Egyptian citizenship, and Egyptian Baher Mohamed were released on bail in February after spending more than a year in custody.
Mohamed said he was frustrated by the ongoing wait for a verdict.
"We keep waiting for this to end, whatever end it is, we want it to end. I'm really disappointed, another one month of delay, one month of waiting, one month of going to the police stations every night. The whole suffering continues," he said.
A third Al Jazeera journalist, Australian Peter Greste, was deported in February.
The journalists were originally sentenced to between seven and 10 years in prison on charges including spreading lies to help a terrorist organisation, which they have denied.
Egypt's high court ordered a retrial in January. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
