The Prince of Wales also visited the Bethlehem's Church of Nativity, where Christians believe Jesus was born, as well as Omar mosque.
Prince Charles' five-mile (eight-km) journey to Bethlehem involved crossing a military checkpoint to reach the other side of a concrete wall Israel built through West Bank territory it captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
During his speech on Thursday (January 23) to some 40 world leaders Prince Charles paid homage on Thursday to his grandmother, Princess Alice, for sheltering Jews in Nazi-occupied Greece, saying the royal family took great pride in Israel's recognition of her heroism in the Holocaust.
