- Story Text: British Prime Minister, David Cameron, held meetings in Singapore on Wednesday (July 29) as he continued his visit to Southeast Asia.
Cameron and his counterpart Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cybersecurity cooperation before holding a news conference.
Cameron commented on the situation in the French town of Calais as more than 2,000 migrants tried to enter the Channel Tunnel in an attempt to reach Britain from France. Six migrants were injured in what was the biggest incursion effort in the last few weeks at the tunnel entrance near Calais, on the night between Monday (July 27) and Tuesday (July 28), a local official said.
Tunnel operator Eurotunnel confirmed the intrusion on Twitter, saying it had caused traffic delays.
"On the issue of Calais, this is very concerning as you said we are working very closely with the French, the Home Secretary met with yesterday with the French Interior Minister, we've invested money in the fencing around Calais, we're also putting fencing around the entrance to the tunnel in Coquelles, so we are doing everything we can. The Home Secretary will be chairing a ministerial cobra meeting this morning to make sure that everything that can be done working with the French is being done," Cameron said.
Cameron, who kicked off his visit in Indonesia, will travel to Vietnam after Singapore. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
