- Story Text: Actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth received the 2,555th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday (July 24) honoring a career that has brought her both a Tony and an Emmy.
"I have to say, growing up in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma I never ever, ever thought that I would get to come to Hollywood let alone be where people can walk all over so, I'll take it. This is a memory, obviously, that I'll have for as long as I remain on this earth," Chenoweth told the crowd assembled along Hollywood Boulevard.
Television legend Carol Burnett and Kenny Ortega, the director of the "High School Musical" trilogy, joined Chenoweth during the ceremony.
The ceremony comes one week before the premiere of the made-for-television musical "Descendants,'' in which Chenoweth portrays "Sleeping Beauty" villain Maleficent. "Descendants" was directed by Ortega.
"When I learned that Kristin was going to get this wonderful honor I called her up and said, I'm going to kill you if you don't let me speak. I adore this girl, I can't believe that all this talent can be in that teeny little package. Let me just say this, if I had my show today and I we were doing it today, I would want Kristin to be with us every single week with us," said Burnett.
Chenoweth is receiving the star in the live theatre/performance category. She won the 1999 Tony for best featured actress in a musical for her portrayal of Sally in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown."
Chenoweth also received Tony nominations in 2004 for best actress in a musical for her role as Glinda the Good Witch in "Wicked" and this year for best performance by an actress in a leading role for a musical for her portrayal of glamorous film star Lily Garland in "On the Twentieth Century."
Chenoweth won the outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series Emmy for her role as waitress Olive Snook on "Pushing Daisies" in 2009, which had also brought her a nomination in 2008.
Chenoweth also received outstanding guest actress in a comedy Emmy nominations in 2010 and 2011 for her recurring role as quirky ex-glee club member April Rhodes on "Glee." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
