- Story Text: Real Madrid's defender Pepe said on Sunday (July 26) the team could not imagine losing Sergio Ramos, amid fervent rumours that Manchester United is courting the 29-year-old defender.
Ramos became the captain of Los Blancos after the departure of former captain and goalkeeper Iker Casillas earlier this month.
Pepe said at a news conference ahead of a friendly match against Inter Milan in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou that he hopes Ramos would stay, adding that he had not seemed unsettled in recent days.
"I'm fine and I don't think any of us are thinking about what might happen if Sergio leaves us. He's our captain. I'm sure that he's going to stay with us because he loves the club so much and his team mates. There's nothing unusual when we speak, everything is normal. I hope he stays, he's a reference for us," Pepe said.
Ramos' career with Real spanned a decade. He joined the team in 2005, and was part of the UEFA European Championship winning teams in 2008 and 2012. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
