- Story Text: Shoppers in London were faced with empty and sparse shelves as the spread of coronavirus sparked panic buying of supplies in the English capital on Saturday (March 14).
Tinned goods, toiletries and items with a long shelf life were bought up as Reuters journalists witnessed large crowds attempting to enter supermarkets to buy whatever they could find left.
While in the northern English city of Halifax, one soccer fan took extra precautions before a National League game, donning an industrial face mask in an attempt to shield himself from the virus.
On Saturday (March 14), health authorities in England announced a further 10 deaths caused by coronavirus, almost doubling the number of fatalities in Britain since Friday (March 13).
Some 145,594 people have been infected by the coronavirus across the world and 5,419 have died, according to a Reuters tally.
