The Roman Catholic Basilica was designed by Croatian architect Janko Holjac and is dedicated to the Sacred Heart.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.3, was the biggest to hit Zagreb in 140 years. It struck 6 km north of the city and was felt across the Western Balkans.
One teenager was critically injured and another minor was badly injured. The quake caused several fires and power blackouts in parts of the capital as well as physical damage to buildings.
