- Story Text: France's coronavirus death toll rose by 112 on Sunday (March 22) to 674, senior health official Jerome Salomon said, with the number of confirmed infections increasing by 1,559 to 16,018.
France's health agency director Salomon also said neighbouring countries Luxembourg, Switzerland and Germany would start to take in seriously ill patients from hospitals in eastern France, the worst hit region in the country.
Doctors there are reporting 10 new critical cases a day, a shortage of equipment and masks, increasing fatigue and a growing number of hospital workers also falling ill. They have said they may need to start deciding which patients to prioritise.
